These workshops are designed for people working in the clinical and community sector. Ideal for getting a solid update on new treatments with guest speakers from clinical services and local community to inform and inspire. Interactive elements during the day aim to strengthen local networks to better engage people into treatment and broaden prevention strategies.

Guest speakers include:

  • Clinical Nurse Consultant –  Rebecca Lothian from Kirkton Road Clinic presenting on Patient Pathways.
  • HNSW Ceen & Heard speaker – presenting on living with hepatitis C and experiences of accessing new treatments
  • Needle Syringe Program Coordinator, Rod Smith presents a tour of one of the busiest NSPs in Sydney
  • Hepatitis NSW educator – Ruth Bearpark from HNSW facilitating and presenting workshop.

Family Fun Day at Kooloora Community Centre

On Saturday May 11th Hepatitis NSW will holding an Aboriginal focused Family Fun Day at Kooloora Community Centre for the local communities around Malabar and La Perouse area.  Following the Welcome to Country, from local Bidjigal woman, Maxine Ryan. The event will commence, and is packed with fun activities for the entire family.  A variety of local organisations will also participate offering information and giveaways.  These include-  Randwick Council, Australian Hearing, St Vincents de Paul, Strengthening our Mob, GO4Fun, along with Kooloora Woodturners, who will be looking after the BBQ lunch.  While your children are occupied playing on the jumping castle or having their faces painted, adults can listen to music and pick-up valuable information about their health and local services.  We look forward to seeing you there.

RACGP: Curing Hepatitis C in General Practice

Hepatitis C can now be cured in General Practice. Help your patients today!

The RACGP, in collaboration with NSW Health invites local GPs to an upcoming hepatitis C evening training session.

At the end of this training GPs will be able to:

  • Identify priority populations for hepatitis C testing
  • Interpret test results and diagnose hepatitis C appropriately
  • Assess for liver fibrosis and other co-morbidities
  • Explain which patients can be managed in primary care and those requiring specialist referral
  • Initiate treatment, monitor and follow-up according to the recommended guidelines

Primary Healthcare Nurses and Allied Health Professionals are also welcome.

For those working with: people living with hep C, people who inject drugs, Aboriginal people, young people, people affected by the criminal justice system, or the general community.

At the end of the day you will be able to:

  • Know the difference between hepatitis A, B and C
  • Run activities for health promotion campaigns and group work in your service
  • Discuss confidently the new hep C treatments “Direct Acting Antivirals”
  • Navigate & build on local hep C testing and treatment pathways
  • Describe national harm reduction strategies and map local prevention options
  • Identify and address discriminatory barriers to health care.
  • Support people making informed decisions around their hep C and starting treatment.
  • Hear someone’s first-hand experience of hep C. BE INSPIRED!

Participants receive:

  • A kit packed with activities and tools for your organisation or group.
